Technology is evolving faster than ever and we’re seeing new innovative ideas popping up online with each passing day. In fact, in the past few years, we’ve seen the evolution of tech come to the forefront as IT professionals were forced to adapt to new scenarios and create new solutions in the wake of COVID-19. In a contactless world, business leaders turned to their IT people more than ever to help their business adapt. With that in mind, here’s 6 of the coolest, most innovative tech solutions we’ve seen in the past year.

Artificial Intelligence

In a list of innovation, it would be remiss to not mention AI. Arriving quite suddenly on the scene in the last 6 months, and sweeping through businesses quickly thereafter, AI was made famous in the form of ChatGPT. Obviously, AI has existed for years – through everything from automated payment systems to AI for games – however this was the first time it was available en-masse. ChatGPT accelerated the race, with tech giants jumping on to bring their own AI systems out to combat the rise of this unknown player. In the interim, a more accessible AI network has meant processes are being streamlined and everyone can have their own personal assistant of sorts. It is forecast that the AI market will grow to a $190B industry by 2025.

Mastering the world of Artificial Intelligence may help you secure jobs such as:

  • AI Architect
  • AI Engineer
  • Machine Learning Engineer
  • Data Analyst

Growth of Green-Tech and CarbonZero businesses

With the rise of climate awareness, coupled with the need for transparency and corporate social good from businesses, we’ve seen a steady rise in the amount of green technology, and CarbonZero startups. Whilst many cool startups have appeared that are doing more climate-focused business, one of our favourites is CarbonInvoice. We’ve teamed up with the amazing team at CarbonInvoice in the last year to offset our carbon emissions as a business, and to directly fund the planting on native New Zealand trees. At this point in time, we’ve funded the planting of about 120 trees – with us on track to fund about 800 more this year – a guaranteed net positive from working with us! Across the globe we’re seeing green tech on the rise, and we are here for it!

The Internet of Things (IoT)

IoT is a trend that is on the rise, as 'things' around the world are being built with WiFi connectivity, meaning they can connect to the web and to each other. This has been coined as the Internet of Things, or IoT. IoT has already enabled devices, home appliances, cars and much more to tap into the vast expanse of the online world. From a consumer standpoint, it can already be seen in digital doors so we can lock our house from our phones, fitness tracking through our watches on our wrists that provide real-time BPM insights, and even smart fridges that can project a view of our refrigerators to us while we’re in the supermarket. As the world continues to grow, and as the web expands, so too will the possibilities of what our devices can do!

Hyper Automation

Hyper Automation is the concept of automating everything in a business that can be automated. This kind of tech has been on the rise for some time now, but has also taken to new heights in recent years. With the launch of platforms like Webflow and intelligent business management and workflow systems, many businesses have adapted to such a point that this kind of automation is essential for them. This kind of hyper automation has been fast into the market and has taken hold by making various activities in life vastly easier. No-code website and app builders allow businesses to construct their own basic tech services, whilst workflow management platforms allow teams to work cooperatively from anywhere in the world. In a world that went entirely contactless, hyper automation helped bring us all together.

Robotic Process Automation (RPA)

As AI has risen, so too have the robots, and RPA is another technology that is skyrocketing in popularity. RPA is the software that allows the automation of business processes such as interpreting applications, processing transactions and responding to emails – allowing human employees to do more critical tasks. McKinsey Digital notes that less than 5 percent of jobs can be completely automated, whilst about 60% can have some automation to make things easier.

Genomic Sequencing

Next-generation Genomic Sequencing is just around the corner, as data analysis platforms and rapidly evolving technologies will allow AI to decipher genetic codes and patterns. Although the extent of this is still largely unknown, it is expected that 2023 tech trends will witness the rise of functional genomics that will allow for some pretty incredible things. It is expected that with an advancement in genomics, alongside other advanced medical tech, we’ll be able to foster a better understanding of life and modern health for the betterment of all.
