Looking at returning to the land of the long white cloud?

We love helping great kiwis find work back here at home upon their return! Given how things have changed, and how the modern world is more digital, it's easier than ever before for you to apply, interview and secure a role ahead of your return. Recent shortages in skilled candidates means that employers are willing to consider applicants from overseas, and returning kiwis are first in line!

  1. Loop in with local, kiwi recruiters.

New Zealand is full of many wonderful recruitment agencies who will be able to assist you in your search for work. At Find, we specialise in Corporate & IT/Digital roles, and work closely with many top businesses across the nation. By getting in contact to let us know your movements back home to New Zealand, we can assist in lining up interviews, and even getting you signed onto new roles before you arrive in the country!

  2. Confirm your moving timeline, & communicate this ahead of time.

Having a clear vision of when you're moving back to New Zealand will help immensely. Employers can have confidence that you're definitely returning to the country, and so can match up your return schedule to their business needs and requirements. Many businesses in New Zealand are willing to extend their wait time by a few weeks for the right candidate, and so it definitely pays off to have all your ducks in a row before you apply.

  3. Confirm government requirements around border operations.

COVID-19 is now behind us, but some government regulations and requirements may remain in place. It is best to plan ahead and look at what stipulations are required for you to get into New Zealand, and to secure a visa ahead of time.

If you're planning to work in New Zealand and you're not a citizen or permanent resident of NZ or Australia, you'll need a visa that lets you work.

You can apply for a visa to work here temporarily if you:

  • Have a job offer from a New Zealand employer
  • Are coming for a specific work-related purpose or event
  • Have a partner here, and you wish to join them and work here
  • Are from a country that has a special work scheme, or
  • Have been studying here and want to pursue work/career opportunities here.

Some work visas can also lead to residence — that is, the right to live, study and work here indefinitely.

To apply you need to have skills, experience and qualifications that are needed for the New Zealand workforce.

We recommend that you have this information prepared ahead of time, before approaching a Recruitment Consultant for advice and prior to applying for most roles in New Zealand.
